Aride is the northernmost granitic island in the Seychelles and is a part of the district of Grand’Anse, located 10 km north of Praslin island and is 68 ha in area. A nature reserve, it is leased and managed by the island conservation society of Seychelles. The only human inhabitants are the reserve’s staff; currently some rangers, expatriate conservation officers and volenteers. They live in small houses on the south side of the island. Aride is the only place in the world where the flowering shrub Wright’s Gardenia is endemic and also on this Island is living the rarest bird of the world: Seychelles Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis). And there are lots of White-taled tropic birds on nests with young chicks.
